The sweet and savoury spicy, rich taste of buttefara has only just left my memory and we have another food festival coming our way. This one is Rice, timed to coincide with the harvesting of the rice on the delta. The towns and villages all get involved with restaurants, bars and neighbours all getting involved in cooking some rice based dishes.
120 million kilos comes out of the delta paddy fields and that is 20% of Spain’s production. There are 320 square kilometres and 14 different varieties of rice grown here and each has an individual personality. There are going to be lots of it to eat during the Gastronomic festival and I for one am looking forward to it.
