We went into town yesterday at about five in the evening. We are situated at the bottom of the mountains but still quite high up. I was driving and have been experimenting with petrol consumption and was not in gear, yes I know very dangerous but also very quiet. We disturbed a sweet little red squirrel on the way down the hill. He trotted into the road, saw us and scampered back into the pine trees. What a treat! According to the Iberian Nature forum there are grey ones headed this way from Northern Europe and as we all know they don’t get on with the red ones. But you can eat them. Hugh Fearnly -Whittingstall has a few recipes. Apparently they are like rabbit but a bit gamier.
